HTR — TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
Every specification we hold, the legal classification of each machine, and what we have and have not verified yet. Revision A — August 2026.
HTR sells two ranges under one badge, and they sit on opposite sides of UK law. Getting this wrong costs a rider a fine, six points and an uninsured vehicle, so we put it first rather than in the small print.
An electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) is exempt from motor-vehicle law in Great Britain when it has pedals that propel it, a continuous rated power of 250W or less, and assistance that cuts off at 15.5 mph (25 km/h). Anything above that is a motor vehicle: it needs type approval, registration, tax, insurance, a licence and a helmet, and it cannot be used on a cycle lane or a bridleway at all.
| Machine | Rated power | Assist cut-off | Classification | Public road | Cycle lane | Private land |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Model 01 — the Jack | 250W continuous | 15.5 mph | EAPC | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Model 02 — the Jack Flash | 250W continuous | 15.5 mph | EAPC | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Model 03 — the Rover | 500W | None (25→45 km/h) | Not an EAPC | No | No | Yes, with permission |
| Model 04 — the Nomad | 750W | None (25→45 km/h) | Not an EAPC | No | No | Yes, with permission |
The Rover and the Nomad ship with a 25 km/h software limit that the rider can lift to 45 km/h. That capability is the whole point of the machine off-road, and it is also exactly what disqualifies it from the EAPC exemption — a limiter you can remove is not a limiter in law. We do not sell these as road bikes, we do not offer a road-legal conversion, and we will not tell you it is fine because "everyone does it". Riders must be 18 or over.

*All range figures are the manufacturer's, measured on a flat surface with a light rider in low assist. Real range on a British winter commute with hills will be lower. We publish the supplier's number and tell you that rather than quietly rounding it up.
Almost every e-bike fire reported in the UK traces back to a damaged pack, an incompatible charger or a conversion kit — not to a complete bike charged as designed. These rules are not decoration.
All packs are lithium-ion and are shipped under UN 38.3 transport rules. Packs are removable on the Jack and the Jack Flash, and carried in-frame on the Rover and the Nomad. Full charge from empty takes roughly 4–6 hours depending on capacity.
Every HTR is inspected and torque-checked in the UK before it ships, and built up in full if you ask for it. These are the figures we use, and the ones to work to if you service it yourself. Use a torque wrench — a fat-tyre machine at 750W puts real load through a stem bolt.
